Pros

Great team of scientists and engineers. TRIUMF is an excellent platform to develop as a researcher in particle, nuclear and nuclear medicine.

Cons

The salary. 50k per year gets you nowhere in Vancouver, unless you have no spouse, no children and no life besides the lab.

Pros

Constantly changing projects and priorities keep your professional skills well honed, the exposure to new scientific experiments and the systems associated with them require ability to acquire and apply new professional knowledge fast. Although not completely satisfied with the upper management performance, their availability to listen and desire to help is definitely present. The salaries are competitive. Your personal ability to deal with people is a definite asset, which will help you in your career growth.Very competitive benefits package including professionally managed pension plan.

Cons

Sometime, usually during emergencies or commissioning of new systems or projects, your 24/7 availability is required. Being on a yearly salary, there is no overtime pay, just the extra worked hours being taken off. Some of the systems and installations are aging, require more attention, but there is shortage of staff to handle timely the refurbishing. Some time there is exposure to low levels of radiation, which is well regulated and within the recommendations of the regulating authorities.

Pros

-Excellent benefits -Great time off & flexibility -Very stable jobs -Unique workplace

Cons

The main cons is the lack of modern views on management and employee benefits. It would be nice to have flexibility to work partly from home, or have benefits like an on-site gym, bike station, etc. Comparing to similar jobs in "modern" workplaces, TRIUMF is far behind. The pay and promotion system seems a bit archaic too, and lower than other private companies.
