A company in crisis

Pros

There are still some fantastically knowledgeable and dedicated staff at TWI although unfortunately one by one they are succumbing to frustration and moving on. There are opportunities to learn and progress if you are fortunate enough to have one of the good managers. The location is glorious and you are likely to make friends for life if you are lucky enough to be allowed back into an office setting. There are some first class facilities and test environments under one roof and an opportunity exists to be involved in projects all the way through from order winning to delivery. The knowledge of the technical support staff is amazing.

Cons

The executive team appear to have turned a 'not for profit' organisation into a vessel designed to provide them with the maximum level of personal financial gain, as demonstrated by the ever increasing internal directorship costs that are crippling departments abilities to post profit and provide value for money to the industrial members . Almost every staff incentive has fallen victim to the lack of risk management associated with planning for crisis and many badly timed business decisions, the private health and dental care has stopped, pay increases are a long distant memory and the share in success scheme is gathering dust, and don't be surprised if the company car park starts charging in the future. Many of the previous "honest" Glassdoor reviews are absolutely correct and are swiftly countered by reviews clearly written by TWI's own HR team, confirming the dishonest activities suggested by many. A once great company and a place to be proud of is slowly being ruined by unscrupulous senior level executives and sycophantic managers that have lost sight of TWI's true values and key assets, particularly the reputation of the TWI brand and the knowledge and dedication exhibited by many of the staff. There is a palpable sense of distrust and a fear of speaking openly, particularly to HR team that are governed by the CEO's close friend and current legal director. I sincerely hope that the TWI finds its direction once again and continues to prosper, mainly for the sake of the remaining staff and particularly as my pension is heavily invested in the success of the business.

A deepening loss of trust

Pros

TWI has a great legacy of supporting industry. There are still a lot of really clever, honest, decent people who will help anyone and I am glad to know them.

Cons

I would like to write an honest review of TWI but a recent internal memo means I do not feel it is safe to do so. You can see this site is being monitored from the company responses and staff have been told what will happen if they see certain things posted on online review sites. Some things to consider if you are thinking of working here: Who do you think wrote a lot of the positive reviews after early December? What does it say about the culture that some people felt it necessary to delete their earlier negative reviews? Why are so many vacancies for replacement posts? Why are staff resorting to anonymous online reviews to tell management what they really think? Why do I not feel I can say what is really going on here?

Pros

They have managed to pay our salaries for the past couple of months

Cons

Where do you start?. CEO incompetent and possibly dishonest, with little care for the staff and surrounded by sycophantic incompetents. Has unsuccessfully tried to change a world respected research organisation into a property rental business (he built the expensive offices we can’t afford). Overloaded with dead weight support staff friends of the CEO. No sexism or racism allowed but bully staff as much as you like!

TWI Response

TWI has experienced a very difficult year, like many other businesses globally. The company has had to diversify, sacrifice and push in new directions to ensure the longevity of an institution, that is fast approaching its 75th year. This difficult remit is being driven positively through our Board of Directors, led by Aamir. We are a tremendously agile, diverse and inclusive company and respect past and current employee feedback. We would invite you to discuss and submit concerns through the right channels though; contactus@twi.co.uk .
