Pros

1. Great entry level job into tech/finance world. You don't need any experience to work there and you get to learn a lot about the RIA world that can help you land a real job at a private firm. 2. If you’re a guy you could probably get away with anything here, just be down to join the boy club. 3. Benefits are pretty nice. 4. There are two Starbucks in the building. The building itself is pretty cool, you can go up to the observation deck and have lunch while looking out over the city skyline. 5. Honestly I met some really great people working here, and for a while I did love the culture, until I took off my rose colored glasses.

Cons

1. Terrible management- constantly restructuring every 6 months or so. Management is also not promoted on their ability to lead, most of them have zero experience and Tamarac does nothing to get them up to speed. They should really offer to send management to some sort of training on how to manage people. 2. No work life balance - be prepared for 60+ hour weeks on the regular 3. Pay is WELL below industry standard 4. No real opportunities for internal promotions unless you are part of the boy club. 5. It's like working in a frat with a bunch of young frat guys, and then some older frat guys trying to relieve their youth. That's what it's like working there. Get used to sexist jokes if you are a female. Nothing like hearing about what celebrity your coworkers want to sleep with while you try to heat up your food in the break room. 6. When you do get sexually harassed do not expect them to fire the person behind it.

Pros

None - this is the worst software company I've worked for aside from failed startups.

Cons

This place is a mess, and it seems entirely due to lack of management talent across the development and QA organizations. They seem to be in a perpetual state of "implementing our new process", which is sort of a sorry attempt to look like they're an Agile shop, except without paying attention to the various aspects that don't work with agile in the real world. They micro-monitor developer hours by forcing everyone to enter "tasks" into the tracking system to cover every hour of what they do. The evidence speaks for itself though - we delivered almost nothing to production as soon as the new top level management started to mess things up last year, and that trend continues. Management is making "symbolic" changes, like moving everyone's seats around and switching from Rally to JIRA/HipChat, so that it looks like they're on top of improving the company but you know as well as I do that surface level things like that don't fix a fundamentally broken org and culture. I hope you don't make the same mistake that I did and waste a chunk of your career here. They don't have many (or any) true software thought leaders because they can't afford them and the good ones, if they're unfortunate enough to have taken the bait, quickly leave. If you're a talented developer, here's no reason to work for a poor software company with anything less than brilliant managers in Seattle in 2018. I can pretty much assure you there are 20 other places that are legitimate software shops (who've got great things going on) within five minutes walk.

Pros

Plenty of days off between sick, PTO and Floating holidays. Free coffee, soda and other drinks. Decent benefits.

Cons

Company does not like experienced workforce. Age discrimination is noticeable. If you provide structured criticism in any way, shape or form you're done. Company likes workforce fresh out of college who don't know any better. Advancement is for those who do what they're told even if it doesn't make sense. Management often times don't know how the software works due to the "enhancements" every 8 weeks. Company is definitely a "good old boy" club in Raleigh. I don't know how it is in Seattle, but I bet is the same. RUN as fast as you can from this place!
