Pros

*Bonus of 25% of store profits paid out 2x/year. *I'm pretty much my own boss in that upper-management leaves me alone to run things on my own.

Cons

*Non-Union = unfair labor practices, low pay, poor benefits, wrongful termination. *Low staff levels (due to poor pay & benefits). *Unreasonable high cost/price of merchandise. *No response from upper-level management when asking about issues regarding personnel or outside events. (IF you're lucky to get a response, it's usually "you'll do fine" or "figure it out".) *Upper-level management demands set too high. (ie: in addition to running the store and maintaining accurate inventory, outside sales calls = 10+/week, minimum 1 show/event per month, 5% sales growth each month over previous month, etc.). *New employees compensated more than existing employees (new=$14/hr, existing=$10/hr). *Existing employees must work harder to maintain a 5%/month growth rate for 3 consecutive months in order to get the starting pay ($14/hr) for a new employee.

Pros

The opportunity to be in total control of your earnings by growing sales and controlling expenses. I loved going to work every day because working with the creativeness of people is a real joy.

Cons

With the retirement of Ron Morgan this company went from a company that trusted its employees to one that micro-manages every aspect. Yes the stock has gone up in value as Jon Thompson has done away with senior managers and replaced them with cheaper inexperienced ones. I can bet that Charles Tandy is rolling over in his grave to see what has happened to his legacy.

Pros

The customer base can be incredibly cool and you learn a lot about leather and leathercraft. Neat special items come in all the time.

Cons

Management and corporate are a special kind of hell on earth. Zero organization or cohesion and communication between departments means constant confusions and frequent issues for the storefront that get blamed on associates. Company policies also are incredibly unclear and vague on dress code to conduct policies, so you're screwed if a regional or manager happens to just not like you. Write ups are valid on way too much day to day stuff and theres no clear job desciptions or restrictions. You end up working managerial duties without the pay or respect.
