Poor Management & Undervalued Employees

Pros

Coworkers are awesome, it's not unusual for us to hangout outside of work. It's fun to work in the beer/alcohol industry.

Cons

- Head of the company fails to listen to employee needs, and says very off-putting things. - The micromanaging kept getting worse and worse and made employees feel like they can't be trusted, even after years of working there. Owner is convinced employees don't do their jobs are tries to find reasons to affirm his beliefs. - Job security is not guaranteed, especially to long-time workers. Owner will cut your position to save money and rehire right out of college. Also, if you said or did something to upset him, you're out without a moments notice. - Salary is okay for Seattle but not enough to live comfortably. - Company culture kept disintegrating as owner kept taking away freedoms as he saw fit.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. The transition from Seattle to Austin was a hard one, and we know it was harder still for team members who chose not to relocate. The company you describe is one we have worked deliberately to leave behind. We learned that running a company largely on remote work, with management disconnected from the day-to-day, did not serve our people or our customers well. In Austin and Barcelona we are building something different: an in-person, design-forward company where the work is visible, the expectations are clear, and good performance is recognized and rewarded. We are grateful for the strong friendships that came out of those years — many of them have lasted — and we wish every former teammate well.

Pros

-Great coworkers to get you through the day. -Cool to work in the beverage industry in a creative space.

Cons

-There is no action when feedback to leadership is given and there is a looming fear that if you give feedback, you will be fired. -COO micromanages employees to the extreme where it feels like if you make one mistake then your value at the company is immediately questioned. -Irrational leadership makes abrupt changes with no concern of how it affects the business or employees. -Lack of job security. The longer you are at the company the more of a chance you will be let go for the company to save money. -No room for professional growth.

We appreciate you writing this, and we take the criticism seriously. Taphandles today looks meaningfully different from the company described here. The leadership structure has changed, the company is fully in-person in Austin and Barcelona, and we are intentional about giving people clear expectations and the room to grow into them. To anyone considering us: the company we are building now is the one we want to be judged on. Best of luck in what's next.

We appreciate the feedback. Taphandles went through a significant turnaround between 2023 and 2025, and the changes were real and felt by everyone in the company. That work is now showing results: the business is healthy, the strategy is clear, and the team in Austin and Barcelona is doing some of the best creative and commercial work in our history. Future colleagues should know they're joining a company on the way up, not the way down. Best of luck in what's next.
