Pros

Great community focus NZ owned and history Mark Powel was great - no longer CEO

Cons

Used to be a great employer but now terrible. Many who have worked for decades have left with no job to go to and CEO employing more from the US. No pay rises apart from at top with millions being paid out. Favouritism and bullying in trading team. A group strategy (EDLP - sometimes...) which no one including customers understand. A sad place to be. Worrying for a iconic NZ retailer.

Pros

The People.. and even then they're constantly changing.

Cons

The CEO doesn't care about the workers even going as far as putting in place something so if the Union Workers who are striking for a wage increase go public about it or go to social media, they will be disciplined. If this doesn't show you the type of person who runs this company, and the lack of care that trickles down throughout the stores til the point where you have team members joining then leaving within the same month, Team members leaving and then not hiring anyone for that posistion but expecting everyone else to take on the work load, some days staff are so low we literally have 3-4 people in the whole. *They took away bonuses and any other kind of incentives.. *They dumbed down end of year celebrations. *They refuse to give the living wage, even tho other places are doing it. *If you sign up for a job, expect the responsibility of 5 others. *Don't get too close to people, as most people don't last longer than a month or 2 at a time. *The enviorment isn't overly the best, because of said conditions everyone is kinda antsy, keeps to themselves or just not overly as friendly as the place used to be. *A very small handful of top managers are actually good, the rest seem majorly under qualified.
