Pros

Lot's of responsibility and high visibility due to being a small Company Gain valuable and extensive skills in Excel modeling and financial statement analysis Decent benefits which include Company-paid subway or commuter rail pass

Cons

Analysts are overworked and under paid Very limited PTO days and long hours (60+ hour weeks plus occassional weekends) Very little upward mobility and limited pay increases. Bonuses do not reflect hours worked No legitimate HR department

A Company Devoid of Empathy or Compassion

Pros

- Great office located in the heart of Boston's financial district - Those doing the legwork (analysts, writers, and apprasiers) are genuinely smart, hardworking people - Fun parties

Cons

- A horrendous culture ruled by fear - Long hours and poor pay - Managers micromanage their direct reports, expecting flawless execution at breakneck speed - No real HR department (e.g., no one to go to when I observed a director threaten to throw an analyst "out the window")

Pros

- Great people who really care about you learning the business as it serves the business as much at it serves you - You will develop soft skills as well as technical skill giving you a great toolkit that will serve you very well - You will develop a mastery of excel that is valuable where ever your career takes you - Exposure to many industries, financial processes, and learning opportunities

Cons

- Long hours (You won't escape this in any financial role that is worth its salt) - Autonomy that lends itself to "Sink or Swim" culture - Fluid work flow can make it hard to find a structured process
