Pros

Good coffee machines and a great office. Salaries paid on time.

Cons

Corrupt management. You need to get along with them and dine and wine with them to get promoted. If not that you need to have a fling with them to get a managers job. People work really hard within the new business team to hit targets however you can't find out your bonus till pay day that is after checking your pay slip. They got us to fill out an employee survey to implement changes however management made few people to stand behind us to check if we are writing all nice things about them. There are no set processes either, pretty much depends on your corrupt managers mood if they want to take you into a capability meeting or not. Two managers were recently hired just because one of them is dating a senior manager and the other one is dating another senior employee. It was all kept very quiet and no one else within the company was given a chance to interview. People were informed that these positions have been filled in a presentation which came as a shock to few employees who were looking to progress. Now these managers are relying on the same senior employees to run the team and help people out because these managers have no prior new business or insurance experience. This is Towergate!

Pros

None, there are no positive aspects to report.

Cons

I have never experienced such a chaotic working environment. It all looked great on paper, and the office is aesthetically pleasing but what goes on in that office is nothing short of unorganized chaos. The training is laughable, the support is none existent, team leaders are trained to the same level as advisors, and in most cases they know less than the team members they manage. Low morale, no hope of pay review, enforced "fun" at work includes child like games more suited to a primary school than professional working environment. Changes in structure, procedures and systems communicated by email, of which there are many! Don't believe the tripe they reel you in with, about how amazing the company is and all the opportunities that lie ahead. The place is in chaos for a reason, management have no clue what they are doing. It makes you sick when you're sat listening to some poor mistreated customer on the phone and there's a management meeting going on 4 feet away from you in a room with no door and they're all laughing and screeching loudly. I suppose it is funny if you're getting away with sitting in a cosy room having meetings about meetings and getting paid a ridiculous amount for it. Heaven forbid a customer should ever ask to speak to your supervisor, they have not been trained to deal with the type of inquiries we get day in day out, worse still, we're not properly trained either.. Nobody cares now, nobody will care moving forward.

Pros

The people at ground level - I honestly wouldn't still be working here if it wasn't for my colleagues. At ground level the staff are great - hard-working, dedicated, loyal and cheerful in the face of adversity. There is an awful lot of talent at Towergate, most of which is sadly wasted and overlooked.

Cons

- Management, particularly the endless layers of middle management. Seriously, how many area/regional managers are needed in one branch? Almost every manager at my branch has area or regional in their title. So many are called 'directors' yet ultimately we have been satnav'd into a dead end. - Compliance. I know compliance is necessary, but Towergate go way over the top. Audits mainly consist of checking whether forms have been completed properly rather than if the work has actually been done correctly. How many E&O's are borne out of not ticking the 'did you conform to the Towergate Way' box? We should be concentrating on whether clients instructions are being implemented and cover is correct, not form filling. - Communication. Towergate appear to have forgotten how to talk to staff - new processes are rolled out in 3 page emails with attachments, and despite the fact most people get approx 50-100 emails a day, we're expected to digest every single instruction from the minute we receive the email. If you're going to change an important company procedure that will impact on clients and staff, don't do it in an email! - Lack of backbone. Most middle/line managers I've encountered lack the spine to stand up for their staff or to kick back at crazy iniatives that put staff under stress and don't actually help the clients at all. Very much a 'do as you're told' vibe at Towergate. - Pay/Benefits. What everyone else has said, really. Below inflation/cost of living pay rises has bred hatred for the senior managers of the organisation. Still, as long as they can enjoy their foie gras and champers this Xmas that's all that matters, right?
