Smart team, awful leadership.

Pros

Some of Richmond's finest are employed at Unboxed. Although, a small organization, the people pack a powerful punch of knowledge and expertise. The culture is awesome and inviting.Great food, drinks and socially satisfying. Unboxed is a place where you can be fulfilled daily, weekly and monthly through the work and satisfaction of serving clients.

Cons

Management, doesn't know how to lead. The direction is sloppy, inconsistent and out-dated. Directors and Senior Managers lead by bullying and harassing team members into submission. Adolescent behavior is prevelant in every decision and most interactions. Working at Unboxed is similar to being a cast member of, House of Cards. House of Cards a Netflix series about corrupt and manipulative power struggles.

A Culture of (Negative) Feedback

Pros

There are really some great people that work here. Very smart, kind, fun to be around. And the work (at times) was exciting. We were able to push limits and do new things that felt bold and refreshing. And because of the startup nature of the company, you've got lots of opportunities to take on new challenges/responsibilities.

Cons

To keep this short, in summary, the environment/culture is stressed out, freaked out, and negative. It's not uncommon to see people crying, hear someone yelling at someone else, or to see someone quit out of the blue (without another job). The leadership is unequally balanced, and bad habits at the top are transmitted down through the rest of the company. The company is strangely homogenous and you can really only survive/thrive there if you are willing to be burned down and rebuilt as they would have you. It's rare that you see anyone over the age of 40 working there, for very long anyway. What seems so fun and exciting from the outside, is really a pervasively negative atmosphere (a culture of feedback, to be specific) where people feel like they cannot do anything right.

Bully breed

Pros

Nice physical environment bean bags, snacks, beer, and pretty much everyone gets an iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Cons

The COO/Co-owner regularly terrorizes the office by aggressively verbally attacking employees with the goal of being the alpha dog, not with the goal of understanding why a decision was made.
