Pros

- Summer Fridays, Celebration Days & classpass membership.

Cons

Unfortunately Unmind is one of those companies that looks perfect on the outside and for the first few months you feel incredibly lucky to work there, but after time you begin to see the reality of the company. The main issues are: - Like a typical start up, there are many people in management positions because they joined early in the companies history not because they’re the best person for the job. As such, illogical, rash and damaging decisions are made which are inevitably scrapped after a few months so ‘change fatigue’ is a real thing. - Staff don’t have access to adequate mental health support which is ironic given the nature of the company. - Socials revolve solely around alcohol so if you don’t drink there’s nothing really for you. - Internally it’s very cliquey and whilst people are friendly, it can be tough to break into cliques. - Culturally it’s very hypocritical. Expect to see lots of LinkedIn/ social media posts about how much they care about employees but it becomes quickly apparent these are tokenistic gestures aimed at looking good on the outside. - There is no/ little room for career progression or salary raises. - During the hiring process you will be promised the world however when you arrive you will soon learn these were empty promises. - The product has very little uptake amongst clients, it’s clunky and takes months/ years for any meaningful updates to be completed so if you are in a commercial role it is near impossible to sell the product as it’s miles behind any competitors. - At first the CEO comes across as so inspiring and genuine but over time it becomes clear they are just a shrewd businessman who has just monetised a problem in the mental health system. I spent such a long time wanting to work for Unmind but it was a total nightmare and hopefully others will see this and avoid making the same mistake.

Hello, thank you for this candid feedback. I am sorry to learn that you don't feel Unmind practices what we preach. Wellbeing and development are a big focus for us and we're always trying to think progressively about how we could do better. In your experience, if we aren't hitting the mark then I would love to take you up on your advice above and learn from any suggestions you might have (Please reach out to us at peopleteam@unmind.com). It's worth mentioning that we run performance cycles twice a year and will always look to develop our internal talent to ensure that Unminders are growing with us. Over 30% of team members develop into new roles each year. I agree that People managers play an important role in the business and your feedback is helpful in reinforcing our belief that we need to continue our investment in training and knowledge sharing.

Poor leadership

Pros

-Great peers to work and share your frustrations with

Cons

- Leadership are quick to point fingers at teams and individuals asking why they aren’t delivering more quickly , yet fail to take any accountability. Ironically , this has negatively impacted my mental health, as well as many of my colleagues - Trust in leadership is at a real low yet nothing is being done to address this. The results from our last health survey showed that a lot of teams were struggling , whilst leadership are thriving -why aren’t we proactively addressing this ? - lots of 0% pay rises irrespective of performance. The performance review process is lengthy and time consuming and felt like lip service as managers had already decided who was getting what -Another round of redundancies and it has not been handled well - the CTO is robotic in the way the news has been delivered and made a few serious blunders in this process. Again, this has led to another drop in trust. - no progression opportunities

Hello, we appreciate you sharing your feedback about your experience at Unmind. There's certainly some constructive advice here for us to reflect on, particularly your perception of leadership and the need for better accountability and how this has impacted your wellbeing. Despite a challenging economic environment for many scale-ups, we continue to develop and invest in our teams. We've also launched a new tool to promote continuous and objective progression at Unmind. We'll certainly look to see how we can make performance reviews more streamlined as we know how valuable these can be for team members.

Lack of long term vision, very scrappy

Pros

Great people, in the tech for good space, useful product, great brands using the product

Cons

feels like management are the blind leading the blind, lots of things they say are being done but no evidence of it, the recent redundancies were handled very badly with management saying they'd done everything they could but there were so many things they didn't do or try, feels like panic decisions are being made rather than long term strategies, people were hired and promised the world and then made redundant less than a month later, serious power struggles at leadership level, tense atmosphere now post redundancies
