Pros

You may learn something if have joint right after graduation.

Cons

There is no yearly evaluation system. At Micronova they only give promotions if you have a customer project and not for doing great research (publications, funding, etc..). Discrimination between Finns/European/North Americans and non-Finn/European/North Americans in higher-level management. You see young Finns become team leaders without enough experience while they intentionally don't open the team leader position externally and keep saying no one applied for the job so we hired this person. New hires might be assigned to a messed up project that is ending and previous people had resigned. So they put all the blame on the new person and put him/her in an extremely difficult situation. There is no clear definition of duties for each role so team leaders sometimes use research scientists like an operator in the clean room and assign very low-level jobs to them. HR does not recognize bullying as harassment. They don't face the bully. HR is very biased and doesn't make any effort to face harassment in any form of it and also racism. Most HR people are very biased toward international employees. They don't even know the basic definition of racism and are very reluctant to accept that there is so much going on at least in the Micronova building in this regard. Be aware to record every single incident that don't trust HR. If you contact them and see they did not do anything, report everything to the office of the ombudsman and occupational health care. Most Finns (it was the case for all Finns in my team) don't collaborate with international employees. They exclude foreigners from the proposal writing process. And don't work-related information with them. The team leader does not do anything in this regard and if you report it to HR, they also just ignore you. Very low salary. They do so much advertising. Don't be fooled by that. They even have assigned someone to respond to negative reviews on glassdoor. Don't believe the response.

Pros

High reputation in Finland. everyone knows (and respects) it. I believe, in some fields, they do high-quality research.

Cons

I must say that in some fields, the quality of their research is surprisingly low. Some of the managers were very, very inexperienced and arrogant, with a low-level knowledge of the field. The top management team seems to choose "team leaders" without enough understanding of how good they are... (which is terrible) All employees have to register their work-times every day, and each meeting has to be shorter than X mins (45 or 60), hindering good researchers from having proper deep discussions. So, it could be good for those who want to be employed by a well-recognized organization and pretend to be a researcher, but really not good at all for research-minded people. I also add that the salary is not good, and benefits are not good at all. The other thing is that, even though they claim to be international and diversified, it is just a "Finnish company". Too Finnish.

Pros

* Nice people * Interesting projects and customers

Cons

* Low salary * Bonuses mostly for marketing people and higher level management, not researchers who typically do the work
