      Pros

      -good work-life balance -overall friendly community -good location near grand central

      Cons

      -poor work from home policy and horrible maternity leave -management is borderline abusive to employees and multiple complaints have been made about abusive behavior but HR turns a blind eye -highly political for such a small company -managers often throw other departments and team members under the bus to save face -technology is stuck in the 80s and IT does not have the skills to modernize -lots of dead weight -most departments are overstaffed and underutilized -no innovation and no willingness to change -only suitable for "yes" man or woman

      Pros

      Friendly people. 9 to 5 mentality except for a few managers. Junior staff and portfolio managers are always willing to help. Vacation time is extremely generous even for Wall Street standards. The culture encourages employees to maintain the status quo and not exert themselves. Good stepping stone with a steady stream of new ETFs launches. Great new office space and convenience midtown location.

      Cons

      Recent management hires are highly political and will throw others under the bus every chance they can. Executive management turns a blind eye to this behavior and pits senior executives and mid-managers against each other creating a highly political environment. Limited opportunities for advancement with many long time employees adverse to change, which shows with the outdated technology. Too much bureaucracy for a small asset management firm. Workloads are unbalanced with many employees under utilized and most department overstaffed.

      Pros

      Trading floor is empty by 5 PM. Friendly employees. Lots of lifers doing the same thing day in / day out. No accountability for performance. Family business so dead weight is allowed.

      Cons

      Decisions made by a very tight group of the inner circle. Need at least 15 years of time at Van Eck before viewed as the inner circle. Losing revenue to larger players causing draconian expense management measures including increasing employee health care contribution by 350%. Technology stuck in the 1990s and IT does not have the skills to modernize.
