Pros

Working at Very was very double-edged. I had the opportunity to work alongside some very talented people and learned a great deal. At this point, however, most of those talented people were fired or left - yes you read that correctly: they were fired. Some of the top talent that was great to work alongside and very transformative at the technological level, but didn't jive with the toxic tone at the top was gaslighted for a few months and then fired making everyone think *they* did something wrong. The people that own and run the company are excellent salesmen, so they are great at crafting tall tales of great things to come, but have very little ability to deliver any of it.

Cons

Working at a tech company that is run by sleazy used-car salesmen was one of the worst environments I have ever been a part of. I believed them at first and tried to help build a better company, but ultimately it made no difference and neither did anyone else's efforts that were hired around the same time I was. Stay away from this company unless you only intend on slinging cheap code for a while until you find something better.

Thanks for submitting your feedback. We're really sorry to hear your experience was negative. we've tried really hard to build a company that is inclusive, supportive and challenging, but it sounds like that wasn't your experience. Pros

Lots of autonomy. Room for trial-and-error. Incredibly talented and welcoming people. They take care of their employees with generous benefits and stipends. I never felt the need to work excessive hours.

Cons

At the rate that this company wants to grow, and is growing, they are not implementing new roles and systematic changes to keep up with the growth. Although Very has been around for some time, it's still in 'startup mode' and some days can be challenging trying to navigate where to go for answers with limited tools, resources, and documentation. Upper management takes *financial* advantage of early career employees - particularly those based in LatAm. The top heavy org structure does not help this. Lots of meetings that could be slack messages. The value of transparency really only applies to salary. I think this is something Very is actively working on, but the lack of cross-communication between disciplines causes a lot of friction in terms of prioritization and just general understanding. Retention. It says a lot about an organization when employees either leave after 8 months OR 3 years - not much in between. A great deal of inter-company politics starting to stir.

Lost its way

Pros

Remote work is nice. Company has interesting projects to work on.

Cons

Leadership lost its way completely. There might be a case study someday how they threw away a thriving culture of people and hired on a group of leaders and HR people that refused to accept any feedback or responsibility.
