Pros

I am really happy at Wicked and have been with the company for a few years. The company has excellent clients, experienced managers and has a lot of fun outings and work parties. Everyone gets celebrated. Vacations and time off is encouraged, which is nice even if you want to take a long weekend away.

Cons

It has been challenging to move up and take on more responsibility, as employees have been staying on and the company has stayed the same size.

Use as a stepping stone to better opportunities

Pros

- World famous clients - Great networking opportunities - You'll work interesting events - A great first position out of college

Cons

The owner leads on pure emotion and won't accept the fact that she can't micromanage an agency while living a state away (A fact she insisted we hide from clients). Wicked has an unacceptably high turnover rate - if you can last a year, you'll probably be promoted due to the high turnover rate among Account Executives creating new opportunities every few months. ... I went through three supervisors during my first three months with the agency! Also, it's absolutely unacceptable for an agency that's been around for 10+ years and works with multi- million dollar companies to bounce paychecks as often as Wicked does - again the owner. Look, when an agency has to stop posting team member profiles for everyone except the owner and her top two executives because the high turnover is " A bad look", there's probably a problem at the top.

There's a lot to address in the review. Let's start at the beginning. I have built a lot of structure in the agency and continue to add more all the time. We have time sheets, work is allocated based on hours retained by clients, and I can't think of a single instance that I have run the company by emotion, though I do care very much for our employees. I have always believed that adding a second office in our top feeder market has been beneficial to clients. Aside from wanting to let every client know personally, I never hid it and I spend at least one day in Las Vegas every week. With respect to turnover, we have gone through years where we have had close to no turnover, and then will suddenly lose a few employees - but I would say 4/5 employees leave because they either want to grow into a new market like Los Angeles or New York, or they want to leave PR entirely. For someone to have three supervisors in that amount of time is very rare - and I'm sure that made it difficult for you. Bouncing paychecks - that was an isolated incidence four years ago for a couple of employees, who were paid immediately. Our San Diego expansion was costly, and that timing coincided with our largest client falling four months behind. We don't put all of the bios on our website because no agency does. If anyone ever suggested it was "a bad look," it wasn't me. In the final comment - I trust the director of our Las Vegas office very much. The time I spend with Las Vegas employees is as a mentor, not to micromanage them. If you would like to address any of these issues with me, I welcome an email. I also read every exit interview and take all feedback into consideration to help us grow.

Wicked = Wonderful

Pros

Working at Wicked Creative has been one of my most fulfilling experiences in public relations, which is why I’ve been with the company for a few years. The management team does a great job of teaching entry-level coordinators about public relations, how to improve your writing (important in PR) and various tools for social media strategy and execution. It’s a collaborative environment where teammates can lean on each other for help and where the entire office comes together for brainstorms and to share leads/opportunities with media contacts. The clients are great to work with and the types of accounts are fun and interesting – they’re businesses that you’re interested in and want to support. PTO and after-hours outings are encouraged, too, which helps with work-life balance.

Cons

As with many jobs in public relations, there are early mornings and late evenings staffing media interviews, dinners or events. But, if that’s a con for someone, PR probably isn’t going to be an ideal career for you.
