One of the best state agencies in Wisconsin
Pros
Challenging legal, economic, engineering, policy and audit issues covering electric, and gas utilities. There are some of the nicest folks around here. Great city. Good location. Workplace culture is outgoing and friendly. Pension plan is one of the best. Brand new building.
Cons
Pay is below private sector especially for the professional positions. General public does not appreciate public service like it used to, so general pay raises are scarce. In past ten years under both parties only about 5% in general wage increases plus many benefits give backs. Working for Wisconsin is now a job that you should hold onto for five years to get your vesting rights and good experience, then move on to higher paying positions with more advancement potential. Working for the state used to a lifetime career; now it is just part of your journey.
