Pros

Cool office, and some cool people that you get to work with. Happy to have crossed paths with certain individuals.

Cons

This company is a disaster. I joined after the company had done massive layoffs in 2022, and people were still feeling the effects well into 2023. I had assumed the worst was over once I had joined, and that the company was stable and that we could focus on our work. Roles continued to be made redundant left and right in an attempt to cut costs since the company makes no money. It seemed that every single day there was a post in the People slack channel saying someone was fired or someone was leaving under their own power for other (better) opportunities. These departures strained bandwidth to the max and made it so difficult to stay organized and focused. Nobody knew who was the next to be fired or who on their team was going to be fired. Onboarding and HR in general is a nightmare. Insurance is the most expensive I have ever seen at a tech company. There have been 3 different Heads of HR in a 3 month period. The most egregious offense of all: their official onboarding documents said that my health insurance would start immediately when I started, when in fact coverage really started the month after. I had to cancel all my regularly scheduled appointments that month and make sure that I had enough medication to last until my benefits started. I played it off as a simple mistake, but it was a truly pathetic showing and should have been the biggest reg flag of them all. If you can’t do small things right, how can you accomplish anything sizable? There is an inherent conflict of interest with the CEO and Chief People Officer being married. Once again, another red flag. Career growth is nonexistent. Promotions are given to people who happen to stick around in this environment the longest. The salary is many thousands of dollars lower than any other tech job you will find. As I mentioned before, they would rather fire you and replace you with someone cheaper than promote you or give you an industry standard wage. Employees will have good performance reviews and get fired the next day under the guise of “Not being the right fit”. They will fire you right before the end of quarter / benefits enrollment in the USA to save costs and make their balance sheet look better. Bottom line: I feel like I made a huge mistake believing in this company and accepting this role. I regret not being more diligent and finding a company on more solid footing. If there is smoke, there is fire.

Pros

I've had some time to reflect and I wanted to share an honest assessment of my experience which could help somebody in the future. This one is easy – without a doubt the most talented marketing professionals I have ever come across in my career. It was an absolute pleasure working with and learning from them, I’ll forever be grateful for the experience… The remote first flexible culture was also a big plus for my lifestyle and they did trust you to get on with your work which was great.

Cons

I’ll always be mindful of companies who really shout about being people first as this really isn’t the case at Worksome. They hire and fire people for fun but surely if you’re people first you need to understand you’re playing with people’s livelihoods? I also understand it’s the nature of the beast but then if you’re having to let someone go, look after them with a fair compensation package so they have some time to find another opportunity, especially in this tough market! When I joined I was told the company was growing at a really fast rate and that there would be loads of opportunities to travel and grow within the company but within 6-7 months they had already had a big round of layoffs and from thereon in the culture just changed, you’re constantly thinking 'am I next'. Also, the direction of the company seemed to change all the time, positioning of the product, messaging, sales team structure which makes you think if the leadership team actually know what they're doing? Just accept you’re a start-up, there are constant 360 reviews, performance reviews etc and nothing changes or comes from it… what’s the point? I had a performance reviews 2 weeks before I was laid off and we discussed how I could progress at the company and what my career path could look like– what an absolute a waste of time. They have a Chief People Officer – what do you need that for at a start up? Stop trying to act like a big company, the role has zero impact and if you’re cost cutting then maybe start with getting rid of that role...

Pros

- The people I got to work with were amazing - The free lunch was a nice perk - Head of Wellbeing and Head of Hygge went above and beyond to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for all employees - Flexibility to work from wherever we wanted was also a game-changer and helped maintain a healthy work-life balance

Cons

If you're looking for a place to hangout and pretend you're working, this is the spot for you! But if you're looking for a place to actually work and grow professionally, you might want to look elsewhere. The management team talks a big game about their values, but their actions speak louder than words and let's just say they don't align. They lied and kept secrets about the financial situation, and if they had just been upfront, we could have all secured jobs elsewhere in the meantime. And don't be fooled by the talk of their "experience from Google," because it seems that experience doesn't translate to actual work getting done. And let's not forget about the low pay, I couldn't even afford to get a proper gadget to work with. All in all, not the best place to work, but it's a great place to learn how NOT to run a business.
