Needs A Total Culture Overhaul

Pros

All the typical start up perks, free lunch, nice office, off-sites occasionally. Recently got a head of HR who is really trying to help clean up the issues.

Cons

Leadership is extremely negligent, organization structure is severely flawed. Communication is minimal, and the companies culture seems to stem around bullying newer employees into embracing practices of the past rather than engaging with them on their ideas for the future. The mission statement seems to be all but ignored, almost as if it's it echos the company culture in just being a surface level image and not actually what the company is about. In addition, the thinly veiled "Diversity and Inclusion" efforts seem to result in an almost toxic environment for ... that sort of "talent"... if you're not listening to those employees then there is no point in hiring them for the sake of "diversity".

Rewarding Place To Work

Pros

• Highly motivated intelligent team members who think about solving massive social problems. • Managers who empower you to succeed, but will help when you ask (no micromanagers here). • Executives who honestly care about your professional and personal successes. • Ambitious colleagues who challenge you to think differently and stimulate you intellectually. • Working with people who don't shirk the actual work, everyone (executives included) will roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty to solve a problem. • Mission driven company that is actually making the world a better place. • Incredible opportunities for growth and professional development. • Benefits package with unlimited PTO, HSA, commuter benefits, gym rebate, and music streaming membership.

Cons

• Company provides daily lunches however many of the meals leave me hungry. • Working at a startup where people/projects constantly compete for your time can be demanding and exhausting.

Worst place to be in your career

Pros

Seemed like a good firm before joining ; Challenging interview process

Cons

What seemed like the most promising opportunity of all times in my career, turned out to be the biggest nightmare, wherein a) You cannot give better ways of solving the same problem. If you do, they will force you to shut your mind and follow whatever is being followed b) Instead of understanding and addressing the employees problems, the only thing senior leadership treats them just as resources, and involves the HR and CTO in every small matter I joined the company 2 months back with very high aspirations. The way the company has been from day 1 is extremely unprofessional and questionable. 1. A team of PHDs just follows their way of working without even paying heed to any different way of solving problems. If you can come up with a different way of solving the same problem, instead of telling you why is that approach right or wrong, they will simply say that you need to follow existing, even to a person with 10 years of experience. If you further question, they will simply escalate it to the CTO, suggesting you are not working. 2. The worst part is the senior leadership. Their IT team deleted my code folder mistakenly (which they admitted later) two days before the submission deadline. When asked for a reason, I was again forced to redo the same effort in two days. When I enquired about the missing codes and work, the matter was again escalated to the HR and CTO, and I was asked to deliver by the same deadline. I struggled two days and delivered the work way before deadline, which was reviewed and deemed okay. But, then, 2 days later, out of nowhere, I received a call from HR, that they cannot continue working with me. When asked for a reason they had nothing significant. All this happened just over a period of 2 months
