Pros

At the heart of the ecommerce industry with solid brand-name customers.

Cons

Poor hiring in the C-Suite starting in 2022 eroded marketing team culture, company culture and opened the door to competitors.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate you highlighting our cutting-edge technology and strong customer base – those are things we are proud to have built. We know that leadership transitions, especially during periods of rapid growth can impact team dynamics and culture. Since our significant expansion in 2022, we’ve focused on increasing transparent and building more meaningful connections across the company. That includes clearer communication around company health metrics including what they mean, how they impact our strategy, and how departmental decisions contribute to our overall performance. We’ve also expanded our internal communication channels from regular Ask Me Anythings sessions to both departmental and companywide newsletters. We’ve launched new employee resource groups, development programs, and training designed to support our people and their growth. And product-wise, we’ve delivered innovations that have helped us secure a spot as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce for five years in row. We are sorry to hear that your experience didn’t reflect the transparency and culture we’re continuing to build as we mature as a business. While there’s always more room to improve, we believe the progress made in recent years and the effort that our commercetoolers put into that has positioned us –– and our teams –– for longer-term success. Thanks again for your contributions during your time with us, and we wish you all the best in what’s next for you.

Pros

It was a nice company to work for, and people genuinely loved working there. But from the past years the whole situations changed....

Cons

I had a good time working at the company, but unfortunately, it has been losing its reputation due to internal discrimination among employees. They are adopting a US-style work culture, which has led to abrupt contract terminations for EU colleagues without any prior notice. Even worse, some employees have faced silent terminations without receiving any severance pay. Additionally, the higher management often puts excessive pressure on employees to complete work at an unrealistic pace, without proper planning or defined timeframes. It’s disheartening to see a company disregard employee trust, dedication, and labor in such an unfair and chaotic manner.

We want to be very clear: The claim that commercetools conducted "silent layoffs" without severance pay is unequivocally false. Not only would this be illegal in Germany, but it is also entirely against our values as a company. We acknowledge that we recently underwent restructuring — an incredibly difficult but necessary decision to align with market realities. There is no one way to approach this process in a global company that will satisfy everyone, but we made sure to provide severance packages that exceeded industry norms. Additionally, we gave all remaining employees an extra day off to process the changes before collaboratively reassessing priorities and workloads. We empathize with those impacted and understand the emotions surrounding such transitions. However, transparency must be met with honesty. commercetools remains committed to treating employees with fairness and respect, even in challenging times.

Pros

- Good Product - Flexibility of work hours - Good perks

Cons

Management is very unorganised. Employees are getting fired without proper reason. No accountability for your manager and management wont see it. Had 1 round of big sudden layoffs where people were fired in 10 mins and their computers went blank.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for the contributions you made during your time with us. We’re glad to hear that the flexibility, workplace perks, and the strength of our product and teammates were highlights for you — these are indeed aspects we also value at commercetools! We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience with management felt disorganized, and we regret any concern caused by what may have felt like sudden changes. While it’s important to respect the privacy of former employees, we can confirm that there have not been any layoffs in marketing or the wider company since January 2023. We always strive for transparency and care when making difficult decisions, but we understand the need for clearer communication during employee exits. Your feedback is a valuable reminder of the importance of continuously improving our management practices. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
