This week marks Neurodiversity Celebration Week – here’s how we celebrate and support neurodiverse colleagues at Asda: 🟢 Our Supported Internship Programme with DFN Project SEARCH (pictured) continues to support young people with special educational needs, providing them with the skills and confidence they need to gain employment. 🟢 Our Accessibility Inclusion Network gives colleagues a safe space to share their experiences, ideas and feedback so that we can all be great allies in the workplace. 🟢 A representative for the network also sits on our Colleague Advisory Panel – ensuring that neurodiverse colleagues have a voice and can feed into business-wide decisions to improve and promote accessibility at all levels of decision making. We’re passionate about creating an inclusive environment that enables all our colleagues to bring their best and true selves to work every day. #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek
The Asda Logistics Services team hosted a night of celebration and awards, compered by BBC comedian Andy Parsons at the Queens Hotel in Leeds last Thursday. Over 200 people from across the retail logistics industry came together to raise money to help ex-military personnel gain skills and training to help them get back into work. Keynote speakers on the night included Major Ian Battersby, Head of the UK Army Cadey Force and VIL CEO Darren Wright. Darren Wright, CEO of Veterans into Logistics, said: “We cannot do the work we do without the support from our patron suppliers like Asda, which is why nights like this are so important.” As well as raising money via ticket sales, a raffle and charity games, eight different hauliers also pledged to each take on and train an out of work veteran from across the armed forces. Lee Millward, formerly Duke of Lancaster’s Infantry Regiment, explained what the support means to him: “Having HGV training will give me and my children the best quality of life and I can't wait to start the next chapter.”
Asda has published its 2024 Gender Pay figures, showing a year-on-year reduction in its median pay gap. The median hourly pay difference between all male and female colleagues is 4%, which has reduced from 5% in 2023. Asda’s chief people & corporate affairs officer, Hayley Tatum MBE, said: “We’re committed to fostering an inclusive culture where every colleague can thrive and reach their full potential. While we’re making progress in reducing pay gap, we know more work is needed, particularly when it comes to helping female colleagues move into more senior roles. One of the ways we’re doing this is by offering a range of development opportunities that are equipping women from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge, skills and confidence to progress in their careers at Asda.” Use this link to read more about it: https://retailtimes.co.uk/asda-updates-on-2024-gender-pay/
