Here are your weekly insights from Viacom’s Talent Acquisition team. This week, Kelsey Auyeung, Talent Acquisition Manager, shares his tips for applying to tech roles. (Part 1) Q: What do you look for most in an application? A: For our data science or data engineer positions, the typical candidate has experience and/or education from a data science, statistics, or computer science background. The other major area we look at on a candidate’s application is their professional, academic, or self-driven projects. We’re trying to gauge if a candidate has the technical competency to work with our team or business partners. Q: Can you share a bit more about those technical exams? What do they entail, and how can candidates prepare? A: Candidates will usually receive a take-home, open-ended exam that they have a week to complete. In our data science roles, an applicant can be asked to compute data, build a predictive model, or even create an interactive web application.
