Apical, a member of RGE group of companies, has entered into the sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) market through a new JV between Spain energy company CEPSA and Apical subsidiary Bio-Oils. The JV will entail an investment of up to €1 bn to build the largest biofuel plant in Southern Europe. To reduce the direct carbon emissions of flying, SAF can be an immediate solution. A next-generation low-carbon fuel produced from renewable waste, it works seamlessly with existing aircraft engines and fuelling infrastructure. Pratheepan Karunagaran, Executive Director, Apical, said: “As the availability of waste and residue grows in tandem with the expansion of Apical’s global footprint and capacities, we are able to create value-added partnerships for our waste stream in various parts of the world, especially in Asia. SAF in Asia has much potential for growth and development. As more countries begin to recognise the importance of sustainable practices and environmental responsibility, there will be a greater focus on promoting the adoption of SAF throughout the aviation industry.”
Apical and Tanoto Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of the Jakarta Special Capital Region and Indonesian non-profit organisation T.CARE, have launched a new early childhood centre in Ciracas, East Jakarta. The new Rumah Anak SIGAP (SIGAP children’s home) has been set up to help improve the quality of early learning and childhood care for children aged 0-3 years. The new Rumah Anak SIGAP was constructed with funding from residents in Jakarta, primarily in the Kelapa Dua Wetan area in Ciracas, derived from the sale of used cooking oil (UCO) from the local community to Apical. The SIGAP initiative is Tanoto Foundation’s umbrella initiative in Indonesia to work with partners to bring about early childhood impact at scale for young children.
To mark International Women’s Day, RGE would like to highlight the progress achieved by our business groups in advancing equal opportunities for women. In Indonesia, the Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection, I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, presented a certificate of appreciation to Sihol Aritonang Aritonang, President Director, PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (PT RAPP), for APRIL Group’s support with G20 Empower Indonesia 2022. G20 Empower was an initiative within the Indonesian G20 presidency that promoted the advancement of women in leadership positions. APRIL’s support for this initiative is centred around its #APRIL2030 commitment to champion equal opportunity for women, boost women’s social and economic participation, as well as to ensure equal opportunities for advancement while driving innovation and fostering a sustainable future.
RGE Founder’s Day 2022 was marked with a range of activities across the different business groups during the final weeks of last year. Founder’s Day 2022 was unique in that the various events took place shortly after the celebrations of the 55th anniversary of RGE, which highlighted the extraordinary growth of RGE since it was set up by Founder and Chairman Sukanto Tanoto. RGE Founder’s Day is observed every year with employees volunteering their time to support local community-based causes, in line with the 5Cs business philosophy of Founder and Chairman, Sukanto Tanoto. The 5Cs philosophy is based on the concept that what is the good for the company must first be good for the community, country, climate, and customer. Over a number of weeks in November and December, employees held RGE Founder’s Day 2022 activities across the different geographies in which the business groups operate.
RGE Founder’s Day 2021 was observed globally from October through December under another year of special circumstances. However, the COVID-19 global pandemic and new variants did not dampen RGE companies’ resolve to continue creating value for community, country, climate, customer and the company – our Founder and Chairman Sukanto Tanoto’s 5C’s business philosophy. RGE’s 60,000-strong staff enthusiastically adapted last year’s Founder’s Day strategic approach with a hybrid of hands-on volunteerism (while observing safe distancing measures) and raising funds for community organizations fighting the pandemic on the front lines. An amazing US$500,000 was raised for 13 community organisations around the world.
