What is the hiring process like at TikTok?

      TikTok reviews

      Wonky company

      Content moderator
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

At the time fully remote with no expectation of being in the office Private health care came in clutch Decent sized bonus at least during the first year

      Cons

Unsocial hours and inconsistent day off per shift pattern Managers who no experience in my role who belittled job issues Project quotas monitoring software made shifts tedious and counter intuitive No internal hiring process between departments, no system in place to keep employees within in the company if a better fit elsewhere in the company

      3

Mentally Draining with increasingly out of touch metrics

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

medical and mental health benefits offered are the bare minimum of what should be offered everywhere. hybrid work environment -- few days in office and a few days out.

      Cons

decreasing wages (started at ~25 hourly and reduced to 21, still going down as "perks" are deprecated), office quality of life is decreasing -- food quality has always been bad and continues to not improve, snacks offered in office have gone to being healthy-ish to simply just energydrinks and sugary junk food, team outings used to be a regular thing and have since been all but deprecated. performance metrics are continually increasing and extremely competitive between your immediate teammates instead of company averages, getting time off gets increasingly harder as management adds unnecessary bureaucracy to the process. transferring between departments or teams for vertical (even just laterally) career growth is next to impossible as management prioritizes hiring outside of the company to fill positions. hard work is not regularly recognized -- ideas for improvement get passed off as someone else's and fail to recognize the real trailblazer.

Not up to industry standards on any level

      Senior quality analyst
      Former employee
      Dublin, Dublin
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Great place to gain experience working in ambiguity and managing many different workflows and projects simultaniously.

      Cons

Very poor hiring process. Half of your colleagues don't want to do the work. Some managers are capable and professional, but some really will surprise you. Hard to understand how they managed to go through interview process. Salaries are small and performance reviews and bonus system is a game.

      Overall Negative Experience

      Search operation specialist
      Current employee
      Dublin, Dublin
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The company overall has some decent benefits and the office is pretty cool.

      Cons

The work itself it's quite repetitive and priorities are constantly changed. Management team is obsessed with automation and cutting down people, There are lay-offs often and the environment is not the best. Everyone is either dragging or just waiting to be laid-off. I highly recommend for people to negotiate salary at the beginning, because there are no promotions and no salary adjustments to inflation rate. Additionally, during my recruitment process, the numbers on top of the table were ones and by the end of a successful recruitment they low balled the offer by more than 20%. So be very careful. Stay strong!

      Poor management and unreasonable hours

      Quality manager
      Former contractor
      London, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

They provide an excellent workplace and unlimited food in the name of perks, so you won't step out of the office once you enter. They pay well and move the recruitment process pretty fast, and they are even willing to sponsor the right candidates.

      Cons

Insane hours in which, due to a legal stipulation in the offer letter, they do not follow the country in which you stay or serve; instead, they use their internal terms. In the name of flexibility, they expect you to get up at China time to attend the line manager's hectic schedule at 3 or 4 a.m. in the UK. Work from home even when there is no weather or contingency in the UK; they still expect you to run to the office. Genderism, bias, micromanagement, and poor management were all present. You must have a robot that can defeat another robot and be emotionless in their choice of words and how they operate beyond global culture, but they want to be the big giant to compete with social media.

Good for a short time, lack of opportunities. Lack of skills progression

      Social media content moderator
      Current employee
      London, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Benefits, hybrid, get an idea what’s behind the social media scenes

      Cons

No progress, unrealistic KPIs keeping you constantly in stress, constant changes without taking into consideration how that affects the employees, interview process is still old school and lacks creativity

      2

Horrible Recruitment Process - Disrespectful process

      Project manager
      Former employee
      Kuala Lumpur
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The recruitment is much more organized nowadays but lacks considerate recruiters who guide you through the process.

      Cons

Many rounds of interviews, starts with 2 rounds but ends up going to 5-6 rounds just to arrive to the end when they say you are a strong candidate and they just ghost you with no reply or no feedback at all. Completely disrespectful.

      Headcount Freeze and reorg

      Strategic partner manager
      Former employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

While there are talented people and interesting projects, the overall environment feels uncertain and reactive, rather than strategic and stable. In short: Great opportunities( Hiring manager, team leader is the key!) may exist, but go in with eyes wide open and prepare for unexpected changes at any stage.

      Cons

The company is known for frequent headcount freezes, which can happen suddenly—even in the middle of an interview process. It’s not uncommon for candidates to be moved to different teams or roles before any final decision is made. Once hired, employees often face constant reorgs. Teams and reporting structures change frequently, sometimes with little notice or clear communication. This can make it difficult to focus on long-term goals or maintain a consistent workflow.

Used to be outstanding, now wouldn't recommend to anyone

      Quality analyst
      Current employee
      London, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Free lunch, snacks, soft drinks - Company branded gifts - Health and dental insurances - Gympass - Fairly young, social and dynamic workplace, a lot of opportunities to make friends

      Cons

      - China in control of everything we do, resulting in some decisions that do not make sense; western leaders actually not in control at all - No room for career progression, even less so if you want to change department - No monetary rewards for those who have been in the company for many years, salary increases are only based on performance reviews but that process is also unfair in itself as it doesn't actually reflect on performance - Job cuts out of the blue without pre-warning, your job could be on the line and you wouldn't know until a month in advance - Trust & Safety team isolated from the rest of the company, making us feel very unwelcome despite the very crucial part of the job that we do to keep the platform safe. Without us there is no app. - Bonus scheme not a fair process; very much not in your control despite good performance; it is based on ''quotas'' that the company is trying to manage - Forcing us back to the office 3+ days without any room for flexibility, no sympathy for those who live far - Withdrawal of a lot of perks in the past year (change of health insurance to downgrade, Gympass also downgraded, less snacks)
