What is the hiring process like at Vanguard?

      Pros

You work with some really nice people No commisions

      Cons

Not many opportunities for advancement even though that is their whole "draw" in the hiring process Terrible management that doesn't care for their employees or their clients Below average industry pay

      Actually puts client’s first

      Financial advisor manager
      Current employee

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Most firms tout their client centrifity but Vanguard actually walks the walk. Anytime Vanguard makes a strategic decision it is always with the client in mind. The culture is phenomenal and they actually promote work/life balance as opposed to just using it to lure you in during the recruitment process.

      Cons

Vanguard is a very cost conscious firm so as you can expect the pay is likely less than competitors and other investment firms.

I don't believe they treat everyone fairly. No career growth

      Business outlook

      Pros

I don't see any value in working for this company

      Cons

      - I don't believe they treat everyone fairly and give equal opportunity. - They talk about diversity, equity and inclusion during the hiring process, but I don't believe they apply within a team. - If you have any career aspirations, I will not recommend this company - If you talk about career growth, they will try to find a reason to corner you - Lot of managers sit in same role for several years and create a dependency. So that new comers can't survive. - Managers lack technical, domain, and management knowledge. Thus, they will put all the responsibilities on team and blame the tech lead. - There is no value for tech lead role. Manager will take all the decision and blame tech lead when the problem comes. - I don't believe they know the difference between software engineering and programming language.

      Pros

Fabulous suite of benefits, nice people, acceptance of neurodiversity, true ability for advancement and thriving for people from all backgrounds. Companywide integrity.

      Cons

Some departments can lay off staff even as others are hiring. Slow internal hiring process can keep one from finding an internal position in time.

      Pros

Good work life balance. Most entry level roles less than M1/S1 work 40 hour weeks.

      Cons

My manager who was an M1 had to take up a second job with Door Dash to make ends meet. My other manager who was an M1 lived with her parents because she could afford rent. More than half of my hiring class I started with left for other firms within 4 years.

Solid place to start, but not to stay.

      Financial advisor
      Current employee
      Newtown Square, PA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Friendly co-workers. Environment allows for advisors to be candid about career development and pursuing different roles within the company without fear of retribution. Challenging, yet rewarding aspect that comes with any advisory role. Solid benefits (health insurance, flex fund, 401(k) matching, PTO allocation).

      Cons

Technology is so terrible that it constantly interferes with day-to-day tasks. Over-zealous roll-out of "modernized" advice platform with more flaws and technology issues than the previous platform. Technology issues preventing clients from performing simple tasks on the dashboard and have to jump through hoops to find workarounds. Advisor feedback is encouraged, but disappears into a black hole. Advisor managers are severe micromanagers with in-office attendance/time management, yet they are constantly leaving early/working from home. Severe micromanagement of "metrics" where management cares more about getting people into antiquated video chat room and enrolling into advisory service than the actual quality of advice we provide clients. Instead of hiring, management takes away existing career development time for advisors to take more calls, limiting the time/quality of client interactions. While team-model advisors have the benefit of work/life balance, senior advisors are often bogged down with tasks that require them to log in after hours to complete.
