How are the career development opportunities at Yelp?

      Yelp reviews

Great company culture & supportive management

      Local client partner
      Former employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The people you work alongside at Yelp are extremely supportive and encouraging towards your endeavors. Amazing work culture with lots of flexibility and career progression. Benefits are great and position is 100% remote.

      Cons

Low base pay and job itself is very exhausting. You will be working with people who want nothing to do with Yelp so it's not for the weak. Day-to-day is very inconsistent, feels like there's no stabilization. You can do well one week and feel entirely useless the next. Very mentally draining.

Thanks for your feedback! We're so glad to hear that you've found our work culture to be supportive and encouraging, and that you appreciate the flexibility and opportunities for career growth, especially with our remote work model and comprehensive benefits package. We understand that a career in sales of any kind comes with a fair set of challenges. We focus on rewarding every person with a competitive compensation package centered on much more than just a paycheck. Our compensation package is designed to support our employees' physical and mental well-being and focuses on what our employees value most, which is total rewards. This includes health benefits, 401(k) matching, paid time off programs, family forming support, and mental health services, to name a few. Each employee's story and perspective are unique, and it only makes sense that we offer benefits and perks to support every part of them. Thank you for your feedback, and we wish you the very best in your next adventure!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear you appreciated the benefits, remote flexibility, and earning potential during your time at Yelp. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with company culture and support didn’t meet expectations. We strive to foster an inclusive and equitable environment where all employees and contractors feel supported and have access to growth opportunities. Your concerns about fairness and favoritism are taken seriously, and we’ll be sure to share this feedback with our leadership team for further reflection. Toxic work environment

      Senior product manager
      Current employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Remote working enables teams to spend more time on other important life choices.

      Cons

Product Vision Misalignment and Communication Gaps: The current work environment seems to lack clear vision and direction from upper management. Decisions made by directors and VPs often appear uninformed, leading to frustration and wasted effort. There seems to be a lack of understanding of team dynamics and technical constraints, further impacting project delivery. Internal Competition and Politics: A culture of one-upmanship and siloed working styles hinders collaboration and progress. Individual recognition seems prioritized over team success, leading to unnecessary competition and unproductive internal politics. Promotions and career advancement appear to be influenced by connections and favoritism rather than merit or contribution. Transparency and Trust Issues: Misleading information and empty promises from management erode trust and demotivate the team. Building morale and maintaining project momentum becomes challenging when expectations are consistently set unrealistically. Inefficient Global Communication: Dispersed teams across time zones create challenges in synchronous collaboration. While asynchronous communication is encouraged, it proves insufficient for project progress requiring frequent real-time interaction. This necessitates working outside regular hours, leading to burnout and dissatisfaction.

-Work life balance -Remote work = you can WFA

      Cons

-Lower Pay compared to other similar sized firms at the same level -Overbearing boss who micromanages -Lots of bureaucracy and layers of approvals needed (all go through one director who thinks he's better than everyone else) -Low career opportunities for switching, promotions just come with more responsibilities and not much pay or title increase

Thank you for your feedback, and we are sorry that your experience on our team was anything less than what you had hoped for. Our management style at Yelp is very hands-on, and to some this may feel like micro-management. Our goal is to give ample support for our sales team while they learn new sales skills and practice new tactics. This sometimes includes things like barging calls to assist with closing deals or managers having team check-ins multiple times per day to ensure everyone is on-track to achieve their goals. In addition, our compensation package is designed to support our employees' physical and mental well-being and focuses on what our employees value most, which is total rewards. This includes health benefits, 401(k) matching, paid time off programs, family forming support, and mental health services, to name a few. Each employee's story and perspective are unique, and it only makes sense that we offer benefits and perks to support every part of them. Thank you again for sharing your feedback with us, and we wish you the best in your next role!
