Account Advocate (Bilingual In French) Interview

      17 Sept 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Detroit, MI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at ADP (Detroit, MI) in Sept 2013

      Interview

Received an email asking to pick top 3 interview times for a 30 min. phone interview. All times were in Pacific even though they knew I was in MI. This wasn't just an oversight. They had a note specifically telling me to figure out what times they would be EST. So right off the bat they give the impression they can barely be bothered to deal with you. I didn't hear back about the times I picked until after the first appt. had already passed. So I waited around at home just in case they called. 2 hours after that I got an email picking one of the other times. This was all set-up by a different person in HR than I actually interviewed with. Seems like they have a lot of people working for them doing jobs that one person could do but it's split into 2 or 3. My actual interviewer called 5 min. late, and then asked me if it was a good time to talk. I thought that was a strange question since I set aside time to be available for the interview and she didn't just call me out of the blue. After going through the basic interview questions & telling me about the job, she asked what salary I expected. I told her and she said they weren't willing to pay that much & gave me a range $5K lower. I explained I understand that they are paying that for entry level English speakers. I am bringing an added skill of being fluent in French as well as many years experience in an office setting. (Plus they needed to compensate me for the extra 3% tax for working in downtown Detroit & paying for monthly parking.) After all that she said my salary request wouldn't put me out of the running (I should think not!) and that she would send me the info for the online testing. Said they would do a background check and after that would get an in-person interview if everything checked out. I have no worries that my background is clean so expected to jump through the hoops & get an interview in a week or so. Got the online testing which is what basically every other company out there does - math, reasoning, personality, etc. I had just taken the same test the day before so a lot of it was fresh in my mind and I breezed through it. There was no reason to believe I wouldn't get the in-person interview. I heard nothing from for a week and then received a generic rejection email saying they were "pursuing other candidates that more closely meet their needs". It wasn't even signed by my interviewer - just the department title. She had told me in the interview they had only a handful of potential candidates and it was very difficult finding candidates with my skill set. So I am assuming they think they can get a cheaper French speaker by recruiting kids fresh out of college. I know it wasn't anything I lacked. I even sent an email asking for any insight on why I wasn't selected since they wouldn't do all the testing, etc. if they weren't going to move me forward. She didn't reply - shocking. I believe they are just trying to cut corners to save money. Ultimately, they will anger their clients when they have to deal with an incompetent kid who really doesn't know what is going on.

      Question 1

No unexpected questions. Pretty routine if you just look on any job site to find answers to prepare for.
