      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      28 Mar 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Mateo, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Agmonitor (San Mateo, CA)

      Interview

Recruiter call, hiring manager call, another call about HR related info and next steps, take home assignment related to the role, another call to discuss what was done in the take home, and an in person onsite which involves a 2nd part of the take home assignment which involves a presentation at the onsite. This was spread out over 3 months. After the second call I was told I would be moving forward, but there was radio silence for over a month. Quickly moved forward with the next steps, but the take home assignment was very involved with data science/statistics, so much so that I felt like their job description was 100% wrong for what they actually wanted. Spent roughly 3 full working days researching and working on the project due to the data science-y nature of the problem and the fact that you need to create a presentation. Flew over to the bay area, ubered in, met everyone and gave my presentation, ubered back to the airport and quickly flew back. After that a canned rejection and absolutely no feedback and radio silence after asking what made me not a fit -- after all the time preparing and giving the presentation. Adding insult to injury, I was told that my ubers would be covered, but also radio silence there after I asked about it. So now I'll just have to suck it up and pay for it. All in all, I literally had to pay money to interview. This was literally a case where I would be better off not interviewing -- both in money and the vast amounts of time spent.
