      Cloud Infrastructure Architect Interview

      17 Feb 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Jan 2019

      Interview

Things that went well: 1. The recruiter kept me informed throughout the recruiting process. She even called me a few days before the on-sire interview to explain what to expect and help answer any questions 2. The overall process was fast, the recruiter was pretty responsive Things that didn’t go well 1. I was provided two work samples (one was a hands-on EC2 lab) to complete before the on-site interview. I had to put significant time to complete the labs. When I asked my interviewers if they had any feedback, they had no clue what I was talking about. It was obvious that they did not even care to review my work samples. Secondly, I was told not to terminate the EC2 instance unless I was informed by the recruiter (this was to make sure that the interviewers had a chance to look at my work samples). It’s been over 2 weeks since my on-site interview and I have not received any intimation go ahead and terminate the Ec2 instance. SO, it’s clear to me that the work samples are not taken seriously. It’s a shame! 2. I have been recruiting for my company for over 6 years now. Usually, we give the last 5 minutes or so to the candidate to ask any closing questions. Two of my interviews didn’t even have the courtesy to give me an opportunity to ask questions.

      Cloud Infrastructure Architect Interview

      30 Sept 2022

      Neutral experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon

      Interview

Applied online, recruiter reached out and conducted a brief phone screen and insisted they was provided a salary range / number. After this I was invited to do an online job simulation assessment and a multiple choice behavioral questionnaire, which was around two hours. Next step if successful is a technical phone screen with a Cloud Infrastructure Architect who asked mostly technical interview questions and Why Amazon? This was fairly easy and enjoyable. Then if you ace all that you are invited for the final LOOP interview process which consisted of several 1 hour back to back interviews. There was two technical interviews, one was just answering technical questions with one or two behavioral questions and the other was a whiteboarding exercise, the software they make you use is awful so make sure you practice how to use it! The other three interviews were all behavioral based and expected responses based on the STAR format. Unfortunately the interviewer picks the questions so I ended up being asked the same questions by all three interviewers. I would say 70% of the questions were based on handling conflict, missing a deadline or persuading your team to follow your direction and if you don't have stories from a similar position you are applying for then they seem to not be too interested in what you have to say. One of these interviews I was constantly interrupted when trying to answer their questions which really soured my overall experience as it felt more like an interrogation than a interview. Once finished, they promise to give you the outcome in two - five business days, I got a response in under 48 hours, unfortunately no feedback is provided.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Amazon in Jul 2022

      Interview

Applied online via amazon.jobs. Recruiter Screening Received a call from HR who did the initial screening to understand my experience and explained the process clearly. The Recruiter explained the interview process and what to expect. 1st Phone Screen Round Approximately 24-48 hours later I received invitation for a Phone screen with a team member. The interview was a mix of technical questions across compute, storage, databases and networking. Also one question on leadership principles. Final Loop (5 rounds) Two days later received invitation for final loop with a panel. Recruiter again helped here by sharing useful material and tips to prepare for the interview. Total of 5 rounds in which one of the rounds is technical. All the interviewers were very friendly. They are trying to extract the data points from you so that they can root for you. 4 rounds of interviews are completely based on leadership principles. So you need a lot of examples to prepare 1 round is based on technical depth across compute , storage, databases , networking and security.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

A lot of material is available online on the leadership principles. Have a lot of examples available in STAR format and practise them. For technical depth have strong foundations across Compute , storage, databases , networking and security. For example - Whats the difference between block storage and object storage ? How does TLS work?
