      Gameplay Engineer Interview

      17 Mar 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Jan 2022

      Interview

My experience was different than most, because I was selected to be interviewed during the holiday season, so there was a large gap between all the interviews. But I believe, regardless, the process is the same. There was a total of 5 interviews, each roughly an hour long. The first was with an engineer to determine whether or not you would move forward. After moving on to the next stage, there was a call with a recruiter, where they explained what happens next and what to prepare. Finally, there were 4 back-to-back interviews with three engineers and a hiring manager. The engineering interviews all contained a live coding session, where they gave you a problem to solve. After it was all done, I had to wait roughly 2-3 days for the team to meet up and make their decision.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The interview with the hiring manager was strictly behavioral questions, questions that ask you "Can you tell me about a time when..." or "How did you...." There were about 4-6 of these questions one after another, not necessarily building off of each other. Amazon has these leadership principles they value, so they base the questions off of those. The interviews with the engineers were all the same. They asked one question about you and something you've worked on, one question based on those leadership principles, and then the technical question. Depending on how long you talk about the first two questions, you might only have 30-45 minutes to work through the coding problem.
