      Software Development Manager Interview

      25 May 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Gurgaon, Haryana
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Amazon (Gurgaon, Haryana) in May 2015

      Interview

Obviously, I am not too happy the way my candidature has been processed at Amazon but you can take your own call. I applied for Technical Program Manager at Amazon, Gurgaon. However, I was processed for Software Dev Manager, which I was told is the "same things" as TPM and thus I did not raise any concerns. On the day of the interview, I was called at 12:00 PM and I was there at the said time. Even after reaching on time, my first interview happened only at 2.30 PM. This interview went on till around 3.30 PM and I thought I performed very well in this round. In hindsight, I do think there were areas I could have answered better but nothing went horribly wrong. This was an entirely soft-skills oriented round. About 45 mins after my interview (4.15PM), I was told that the first round did not go too well but I will have to be evaluated on the technical front. I waited till about 6PM. At around 6PM, I was told that I will have no rounds for that day and that I am not being considered anymore for SDM. However, I will be considered for TPM and I will "definitely, definitely" be called in by "Monday or Tuesday" No call came either on Monday or Tuesday and on Wednesday, I emailed to check my candidature. I am guessing this email is the reply to that follow up. I posed some questions to their HR with no response: I have not been technically evaluated so far. What went so horribly wrong in the soft skills interview, that I was dropped from both SDM and TPM positions? Why was I not processed for TPM separately than SDM? In the entire day from 12-6, I had just one interview while others had 3-4. Why was I asked to wait 2.5 hours after my first interview only to tell me to go? When I was promised a round of technical interview for the TPM position, why was I not contacted for the same? Are you suggesting that something went so horribly wrong in my soft skills interview, that technical evaluation was not required anymore? I am sorry but I am having a hard time believing that. I have always believed Amazon to be a fair opportunity employer but my personal experience has not been that great.

      5 Feb 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tokyo
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Tokyo) in Feb 2026

      Interview

The interview process is straightforward but intense. First interview was with another Software Dev Manager in the same team. After that the famous loop interview where I had to take 5 interviews in a row over two days ( using paid holidays at work ). Recruiter gave a lot of information about possible questions and helped with materials. However, I had to use same stories few times as the different interviewers asked same questions few times. Everything is okay, I had a good time during the interviews and it was a good exercise. However, I simply do not understand why they have to call to reject? I am not a customer to be obsessed with. A straight cut rejection via email works better than taking time out of my busy schedule. If they used this time to share some feedback, that would be useful. If they do not share any reason why I have to continue formal small talk just to get the rejection on my face?
