I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Asana (Klein Aub, Khomas) in Aug 2020
Interview
Recruiter phone screen, technical phone screen over code sharing site. Basic questions like what have you been working on, etc. during recruiter screen. Technical phone screen was part code, part design.
When I was given an opportunity to ask questions back during the technical, I asked "What do you like about working at Asana" the answer was basically "free lunches" hmm... ok. The interviewer seemed very complacent and didn't seem to care that I was there. I didn't get a sense that I was being recruited, but rather screened. Perhaps train your technical screeners; even if the candidate is not doing well, you should make them want to work for you.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The coding question was fairly basic, not too hard.
The design question was a mostly impossible question on a totally unrelated field to data engineering. I would expect this sort of question, if they were hiring for a game engineer or something like that, but, this was for a data engineering role. Even if you had experience with the question they asked, it would have still been incredibly challenging to answer.
Thanks for taking the time to interview at Asana. We appreciate you sharing your experience with us. One thing we really value in our interviews, is the ability for our team to share their experiences with candidates. We apologize that this scenario in particular was a poor experience for you.
