I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian in Jul 2025
Interview
I interviewed with Atlassian 4 months ago and went through the entire interviewing process. There was a total of 4 interviews although I was told there would be 5.
1. Recruiter screening (30 min): straight forward with light behavioral questions
2. Hiring manager interview (45 mins): Behavioral questions that was scripted. The hiring manager read questions from a script and each question had multiple parts to it. He did give me a heads up that it was a set of scripted questions and that he would be reading and taking notes. I appreciated that. This interview style isn't my favorite as it makes it difficult to follow along and build a connection with the hiring manager. The Q&A section was appreciated as it gave time to actually connect with the manager.
3. Values Interview (30 mins): This interview was behavioral as well and completely focused on soft skills, communication, and handling of tough situations.
4. Case study, presentation, and technical interview (90 mins): This was a panel interview with 2 people. I was given a case study a week in advance and had to provide a 35 mins presentation followed by a technical interview. The recruiter wasn't able to give me much information regarding what the technical interview entailed so it was difficult to prepare. When I asked she said she didn't have an example so I just prepared the best I could. The purpose of the case study itself was to solve a customer issue and provide a recommendation using the Atlassian suite of tools including a budget friendly option. The technical questions ended up being more behavioral and focused on how I would respond to customer questions and feedback which wasn't too difficult. The interviewers were very nice which made the interview less intimidating as presenting to strangers can be a bit nerve wrecking.
Overall I thought the interview process was difficult but fair. The most disappointing thing was that after I spent over 40+ hours researching, creating a solution, and preparing for the presentation and interview I got ghosted. Before the interview the recruiter told me that they would make a decision by the end of the week, then a week after the interview they told me the team would need another week to decide but that they wanted to connect with me that same day or the next. I sent them my availability and never heard from them since. So that's a bit disappointing. I understand the nature of interviewing and the current competitive market however, I do think that if a company requires a case study to interview, they should treat candidates better.

Question 1
How would you explain to a customer why Atlassian products have competing capabilities?
The role is overseen by two managers who share the same title and responsibilities within the same organization. This dual management structure can create uncertainty and confusion because it is not always clear which manager should be approached for decisions or guidance. Additionally, receiving potentially conflicting instructions from both managers may contribute to a sense of unease for the person in this position. Navigating priorities and expectations from two authorities can make this role feel more challenging and stressful than a traditionally managed position.
