After a pretty standard screening process, there was a take home assignment: a Payload detection and parsing class. Not very hard, but a little time consuming.
Then there was a series of interviews that took place over two months. In the first interview, was a long technical interview with two engineers and a smaller portion with an HR rep, in which I was asked for my salary range, but was not answered when I asked if it was within budget. The second interview focused more on cultural fit and expectations. After that, I got an email repeating the salary expectations question and also asking for my current wage. I was foolish enough to actually answer that, with the caveat that because I live in a different country with a different cost of living, that number was not exactly indicative of my expectations for relocation. The result was a lowball offer that was roughly half of my range, which in turn was a little below average for my experience level in the field, but about 10% above my current wage. If you get this far, refuse to give them your current salary or outright lie about it for a better outcome.
