I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at B-OPEN (Thessaloníki, Western Macedonia)
Interview
Classic Greek family owned private business, where they prefer cheap interns from the local university instead of senior engineers. Yet through Manpower recruiting agency they post job offers about high remuneration packages for senior software engineers.
I got interviewed by the CTO, who was a really respectful person.
But then he called some other guy to interview me as well, that had the same last name as the CEO, which was an awkward conversation about nothing in particular. The CTO was not present at that second discussion, perhaps that second guy was the son or nephew of the CEO.
Technology wise they are using an in-house created Platonscript language and a jPlaton java based framework. Not much value for any engineer to bury themselves career wise with such custom scripting languages and custom frameworks in an obscure Greek company.
A couple of weeks later the CEO requested me to come for a second interview, which I did simply for curiosity reasons and because I had no other plans for that evening. The conversation was as I expected, he couldn't even tell me what the position's immediate responsibilities would be.
When I told him that I'm not looking only for a high salary, but also for other things like
interesting work and acquiring new skills he joked about me not being married.
Because in modern Greece (crisis and all) if you are married you should only care for money so that you can provide to your family. So since I was not married, I had the advantage to be selective about my work.... Tragic and awkward dialog.
In the end he asked me what is my expected salary. I told him 2200 euro gross per month, which I knew they wouldn't even dream to ever pay to someone. I was proven right and that was my final interaction with this company fortunately.
Let me note that at that point I was already employed someplace else with 1800 euros gross salary, so it wasn't much of a problem for me to pass on silly jobs.
