      Computer Specialist Interview

      7 Sept 2011
      Anonymous employee
      San Antonio, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Best Buy (San Antonio, TX) in Sept 2011

      Interview

I Received a call about a week after submitting my application online, they asked me if i was still interested because there was 3 positions available; MP3, Cameras and Computers and I suggested either would be fine with me so they scheduled me the next day for a 1:1 interview, I was pretty excited when i walked in NOTE: (I hadn't worked for the past year or so before the interview) so I was a little bit nervous at the same time, but I had prepared to answer any random question asked, I just looked up the most common questions asked at a best buy interview and was surprised that the guy interviewing me had only asked 3 questions but I made sure i answered confidently and made eye contact and also asked questions myself so, the interview wouldn't be so awkwardly silent after each time he asked me a question, I found it to be more helpful because it makes you seem like you really want to work there! The 1:1 interview lasted 10 minutes tops! if it wasn't for me asking any questions it probably would have lasted less, I of course asked more or less when I should receive a phone call about the next steps and he responded "3 to 5 days, to schedule the 3rd interview with the GM". I felt pretty confident after the interview, but wondered why it was to short and if he just ended it quick because he was not interested, the following day I got a call that the GM wanted to interview me at noon the next day. I showed up 20 minutes earlier than scheduled and started the interview 10 minutes earlier, I wasn't feeling to well that day but I sucked it up and made sure to smile, keep alert and strike conversation as soon as he introduced himself, I right away asked how his day was going so far and so on. There was not one dull moment during the interview, I had never worked in retail but as long as you got the CONFIDENCE and TRUSTWORTHY ATTITUDE you got it in the bag! Always try to answer a question with a question at the end of your answer it keeps the GM on their toes and make them wanting to hire you on the spot! I did not lie at all during my interview, I answered truthfully even if it would have made a negative impact to get an offer for the job WHICH IT DID NOT. After 45 minutes he offered me a Job in the computer department even after i had told him that I did not know much about them as the GEEK SQUAD may know but If I want to sell sometime I will have to jump in and learn about the product before hand and do some comparisons if i wanted to do great at sales. He let me know he was well aware of that, and he felt very confident in putting me in that area. PLEASE NOTE.... [If you really want to work at Best Buy and hardly know about electronics except the common basics, let them know before hand, but that you are willing to do a little research or testing the products yourself to help with your sales. And also let them know you are willing to jump into other areas to help if business picks up in your co-workers departments]

      Interview

They ask you a bunch of "Name a time you were put in a leadership position and a problem you faced and how you overcame it" Just think on highschool or sports or make something up. As long as you're well spoken and can put together some coherent sentences you're good.

      Interview

AftThere were 3 interviews - on the phone, with store manager, and general manager. The phone interview just a screening with one of their office leads. This was just to get a feel for what kind of person you are and know about your past experience. I got an interview scheduled for the next day and it was pretty simple. Discussed work history again and did some behavioral type questions. They informed whether or not they were going to push you to the third interview, and I was pushed along. When I told the GM that I wanted to work in the computer department he was hesitant because he had standards on who he wanted in that department - he wanted people who knew their stuff. I, however, convinced him I would be good for the role and he decided to hire me. He sent me information for where to take the drug test and I would come back in for further paperwork pending the results. A week or so past and I hadn't heard anything from them. I called them and I was told they totally forgot about me. They told me to come in to sign paperwork to complete the process. Definitely be persistent if you're wanting a job here. I had to also call in multiple times to see if they got my application.
