      Cashier Interview

      15 Jan 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Best Buy in Jun 2010

      Interview

I applied online in the morning since I was looking for an easy summer job. The store called me that same afternoon to schedule an interview. I was scheduled for the very next day in the afternoon. That interview was with one of the managers. I went to the store, we met, and sat down at a table in Magnolia home theater. He asked me a couple of questions like what my greatest accomplishments were, how I dealt with a problem at school and how I solved it, and a time where I had to work in a group that did not get along. At the end, he let me schedule a second interview with the general manager for the next day. The whole meeting took about fifteen minutes. He was a cool guy, funny and well-spoken. The next morning, I came in and met with the General Manager. He took me to his office and asked me some questions about my availability. He asked me when I had school, if I was able to work during the week or only on weekends, things like that. Then he brought in two other cashiers that were working at the time. He asked them to both ask me a question, and if he liked my answer then he would hire me. One of them asked me my favorite sports team, the other asked me my favorite color. Apparently he liked my answers, so he said I was hired. Afterwards, he asked me how much money I thought I should make. I gave him a number, and he gave me a higher one. We agreed on the higher one. He then gave me a packet of information, instructions on how to get to the lab for my upcoming drug test, and a brand new name tag. He also told me when the new employee training meetings were and what to expect when I first started working. He was really nice and asked all of my questions. That meeting took about 25 minutes. Overall, the interview experience was pretty easy. All of the interview questions were really generic, so it would probably be possible to prepare ahead of time.

      Interview

Was not hard. Asked simple behavioural questions and wanted to grasp if I could handle high-pressured environments to be able to handle work on days such as Black Friday. Mostly just talked about my past experience in retail!

It wasn’t bad at all. It was just a few quick questions about my past experience and whether or not I would be able to work part or full time, stuff like that.
