Was referred internally by someone I had worked with who gave me a good referral. Went through three steps: recruiter, initial design screening, and then design-focused interview.
None of these interviews meaningfully focused that deeply on design expertise, they mostly covered general topics of implementation experience, and what I'd worked on in the past, honestly all of it was very softball and some of the easier interviews I've ever done.
Things seemed to be going very well, but I got cut off here with no explanation. Easily can assume that despite a solid referral, my shipped titles just weren't good enough compared to other people being interviewed (as I've worked in AAA, but my latest project hasn't and won't ever ship). Pretty used to this, but always unfortunate to see teams ignore talent who can do the job just because there aren't cool enough titles on their resume.
The recruiter tried to point me to another open design role, but one that would be a major step down in terms of responsibilities, so I passed on that.
