      IT Business Analyst Interview

      17 May 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bristol, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Boeing (Bristol, England) in Apr 2016

      Interview

Let's start with the Boeing website that you apply on which is one is a customised version of Taleo's awful out of date web based application that's simply awful to use at the best of times. Boeing have a version where they have added lots of irrelevant questions to do with the US military and World Bank. Once navigating past you need to spend an hour or two completing and correcting data population errors if you use the 'upload from CV' function. If you have 25 years experience and 11 qualifications then you'll appreciate how much of a pain this was. Once submitted, after a week received an invite to interview which was at 4pm on Monday (Car park rammed full, but at 5.05 when I walked out, completely clear - not one car, which make what you want from that comment). Got to reception and met a rude reception who informed me I was in the wrong building. Upon checking, I was in right building but they changed the rooms.) Took a 10 min walk with one of the interviewers who didn't say anything and making small talk was like pulling teeth. Hard work and cringe inducing. Once arrived, was then given an overview of the departments by the main 'Head of' which constituted just saying a load of meaningless acronyms (the SCIS etc) as if that would mean anything to a non Boeing person. Then proceeded to talk very technical terms such as using ''virtualisation' which I know about as I am technical but this is a Business Analyst position and they seemed to be talking about solutions. Anyhow, both did not have much personality, and realised that I am in a charisma free environment. Worryingly, they talked of a stable mate of working with Staffs police and described the systems for reprobates which I felt non politically correct and inappropriate. Mentioned they had 230 systems then when challenged advised they were mainly excel spreadsheets. Which, alarm bells rang as just thought what's the point of the role when if all they end up doing is using a spreadsheet package for all their information needs? Asked me 5 very long open questions with extended sentences that felt like 4 or 5 questions in one. At the end of the process, informed me I should hear back by end of week if successful and if unsuccessful would receive feedback. So at the end of week phoned HR and they said they hadn't heard and was going to check and call back. Not a dicky bird. Then received a job alert from the job board re advertising the position. Okay I thought, must be seeing if there's anyone out, Emailed about 10 days after. No response. After driving 4 hours just to get to their offices, and wasting £80 on a tank and a half of petrol and then driving 4 hours back just to talk to a couple of clowns I thought appropriate to pre warn anyone not to bother wasting their time. A review of other BA's in the position at Boeing Bristol just tells me that this is one of those companies where everyone plays the game as to 'be seen' to be doing something since there is no competition as their revenue is made up of using up tax payers money. The other BA's previous roles were in Asdas on the check out till.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Cant remember the exact questions but they just read off a pre prepared script. Then at end of was asked to keep the details of the interview to myself. Yeah right, I thought, why would anyone tell a competing candidate what the questions are? And if I did know and knew I wasn't getting the job then I would certainly tell them (but also inform them not to bother since they keep readvertising and claim they can't find anybody, which, if they took their heads out their backsides and took a leap of faith then they may find themselves surprised).
