I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at ByteDance (Singapore) in Jun 2020
Interview
Was supposed to be one hour coding interview. For first 45 mins interviewer asked questions on project and some testing questions. When left with just 15 mins I was given LRU Cache implementation problem from Leetcode. I took 2-3 mins to first understand the problem as this was the first time I was seeing it. Then I gave a heads up that I will use HashMap to solve this problem and started attempting. Now I was left with only 10+mins. But after 5 mins into coding, he said that he has another interview and left 5 mins early. Leaving me with some lines of code and questions to ask if I had any.
Two things,
1) If you are judging a Test engineer based on coding skills then why not start with a code problem first. If one cannot solve the problem then end the interview early or give another problem.
2) But if you still want to judge on coding in last 10 mins then give a problem which can be solved in that time frame. Just don't waste everyone's time if you don't want to hire.
I applied using referral code and get three rounds of interview. I failed the last round but the inteviewer doesn't know about the technology I use and the screen sharing feature is bad.
