I had just left a job at "Huawei Technologies" because of the job profile offered to me. Staying in Bangalore for the last one month with my sister, with no job was getting to my self-righteous ego. And the list of elite companies which i had chalked out seem to be unreachable for the moment. Got a call one evening that a company named "CSC India" (never heard of it before that time) was offering a healthy 3.27 lakhs per annum package for the position of software developer.
I did my little research and found CSC to be one of the largest players in the US, Europe and India when it came to Financial Services, Outsourcing and Systems Integration. The process was to begin the very next day and i was caught offside. (Ouch!)
I took the first flight next morning and reached the center on time. (i thanked god for that!)
- It was a 5-round process, finishing in one day. Exhausting, but simple procedure.
- APTITUDE Written Test, TECHNICAL Written Test, GD round, Technical Interview (1:1) and HR round (1:1).
- Keep your CV simple (1, or max 2 pages).
- BE CONFIDENT. Don't talk unnecessarily. These are important, since you might become anxious and talk too much, or speak too less because of the nervousness.
- Obviously, just communication skills wont get you through. You need to prepare yourself for some decent technical questions.
- The best way to get through the interview is to think out loud. This will indicate the interviewer the way you are approaching the problem. Interviewers are pretty friendly, so if you are not going to right way, they'll try to give you a hint or two.
- Being able to solve puzzles and analyzing problems well are positives that might help you land the job.
- Come prepared in the basics of all your engineering subjects. But be thorough in at least a couple of them.
Somehow that day, i felt like, this is it! I am going to get this job.
That subtle confidence, good communication and decent technical background got me through the process.
There are many divisions in CSC where you could land up. The biggest positive of this company is that the job, here, is a pretty safe and mostly recession-proof. You are expected to be sincere to your job. That's all. The only major cases where employees have been fired have been because of unethical practices. The company is totally non-tolerant to unethical practices like leaking classified information, submitting fake bills for reimbursement, etc.
Most employees and managers are good people to work with. Yes, when deadlines near, managers do pressurize you, but that's part of their job.
I cannot reveal the exact nature of work done by us for CSC because that's a company policy. But be sure, its not some muck work.
They don't recruit for the heck of it. Yes, you will not be on bench. Even if you will be on bench, it wont be for more than one month.
So don't expect huge number of students to get recruited. Be sure to prepare well for the interview so that you are part of that small group of CSC'ites to be recruited. They pay better salaries than almost every other top-notch Indian company.
Come prepared. Be confident.
All the best! :-)
