I picked up an application form from the office as I was passing one day, handed it in the following morning. One week later I was called for the first stage of interview process, this was very informal, the questions were orientated to what my views of a support worker were- that was to allow individuals to live their lives the way they wish, to do things they chose, within reason with support whilst always maintaining independence and freedom of choice. I was called for second stage a couple of days later, this was to meet with some residents of the home and to get a feel for the service provided. The center I was to work in provided person centred care, by valuing people as individuals with rights and responsibilities, respecting the choices and enabling real opportunities. All the staff were pleasant and welcoming. The final stage came down to the residents, they accepted me and my values I started training the following week and started work as soon as my enhanced disclosure came through.
