Interview
My experience with Chronicle Heritage was one of the most confusing and poorly managed recruitment processes I’ve encountered. I initially interviewed for a Bid Manager position, then heard nothing for over six weeks. When HR finally got back in touch, it wasn’t to follow up on that role, but to invite me to speak with a senior team member about “other opportunities.” At no point did anyone acknowledge or explain why I was no longer being considered for the original position.
The follow-up discussion was discouraging. The senior manager I spoke to came across as negative and disengaged, which made it difficult to feel positive about the company or the role. Despite this, I was offered a six-month maternity cover contract for a different position, which I initially accepted.
Unfortunately, the disorganisation continued. It took over a week to receive a contract, communication was slow throughout, and I never once heard from my prospective line manager. The delays made it impossible to meet their own proposed start date and left me with serious doubts about joining. I ultimately withdrew my acceptance before signing.
Overall, the process felt unprofessional, discourteous, and dismissive of candidates’ time. Clearer communication, transparency, and basic respect would make a world of difference. As it stands, I would not recommend applying unless the company makes significant improvements to how it treats applicants.
