I was contacted by a Discover recruiter on LinkedIn about a position that he thought that I would be a fit for. We set up a call and we discussed the position in depth and my salary requirements. The recruiter confirmed that it was within the range of the posting. We never talked about my qualifications and I brought that up at the end of the conversation and he stated that he got a lot of good detail from my LinkedIn profile and that I would be moving directly to the hiring manager for review and that I would hear something within a few days. We also discussed what the interview would be like. A week later I still hadn’t heard from anyone at Discover so I reached out to the recruiter and did not receive a response. Another week later, I received a generic rejection email.
All of this to say, this was a very poor recruiting experience. Not only did they approach me about the job, but they set false expectations about the next steps, didn’t communicate after the expected timeframe had expired nor did they communicate after I sent a follow up email and then they sent a generic rejection email when I didn’t even have an interview in the first place.
