      Strategic Partner Manager Interview

      25 Jan 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2023

      Interview

What started out as a decent experience with the recruiters quickly devolved into a pretty unprofessional experience led by someone who clearly had no experience running interviews. I made it through the first few rounds without issue, but once I reached the hiring manager, things went south. Her demeanor could not have been more flat and robotic. She blasted through her list of questions without any discussion, it was like playing tennis, question>answer>next questions. No response, and no feedback on my answers, leaving me confused about whether I had provided anything of value. I left the interview thinking I might have bombed given her demeanor, but the next day I was told I did great and was being moved forward. Next up, I had a mock presentation. I was given a set of data, and a short prompt, and was tasked with putting together an account review to help identify opportunities with the data provided. No slide templates were provided, so I spent time putting together a deck that looked professional and matched the DoorDash aesthetic. On presentation day, my favorite hiring manager was back and the flat, unresponsive, deadpan experience began again. I ran through my deck, answered all the questions thrown at me by the panel to the best of my ability, and wrapped up with enough time for some discussion (about 5 minutes). The hiring manager stared with a completely blank, deer in a headlights look on her face. I tried to initiate some degree of discussion but was met with short answers as if I was inconveniencing her existence and the call ended. Once again I was left thinking I bombed the interview, and so I waited a few days and heard nothing. Sunday morning around 7 am I woke up to a boilerplate email stating that they had decided not to move forward with me and per their policy would not be providing any feedback. Quite frankly, I was relieved I would not be working with her, but for the love of god, train your people on how to interview! Honestly, for a position that's so focused on relationship building, I find it shocking she would be in such a position with the personality of a sheet of paper.
