      Territory Manager Interview

      19 May 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at EF Education First (Denver, CO)

      Interview

Applied online and received a prompt response asking me to take part in a group "interview event". The interview event was scheduled from 8:00 - 10:00am (but asked to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out an application). Upon arrival greeted and directed to fill out the application. After finishing it, led into a room to stand around and have coffee (no other options such as water or juice and none of the usual polite "the bathroom is this way if you need it, etc.) and wait until everyone finished the application. After everyone finished up their application, we started our "activity" called "Sell to Sell". Everyone was paired with another person and given three minutes to tell their partner about any product (some examples included the iPhone and gelato). The partner then had to "Sell" that product to the group. Another part of this activity was critiquing the other presenters, giving both positive and negative feedback. After the Sell to Sell activity the group was divided into two smaller groups and asked some of the usual interview questions. The fact that this was conducted in a group made it extremely awkward. Usually the first person to go said whatever they were going to say and the next person said "I agree!" and the third person said "Me too", etc. The interview ended with a tour of the office. Overall the process was unprofessional. I feel like that is in keeping with the company as a whole as the atmosphere of the office was very low key and "young". Almost everyone in the interview stated that they had JUST graduated from college and that this would be a first professional role for them. Got the impression that the company does not hire based on experience, and turn over seems to be very high. The office itself was rather dark and badly organized. Parking is very expensive in the area and the meters all seem to have 2 hour limits.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Lots of the usual interview questions were asked including: What professional or academic accomplishment are you most proud of? What do you like most about sales? Do you think that you would be here applying for this job if this company sold something that you did not have an interest in (the example was table sales, what if this company sold tables, would you still be here), what do you find most frustrating about sales, and who would you target first in your territory?
