      Graduate Scientist Interview

      26 May 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Eli Lilly and Company

      Interview

The first interview with the Senior Director was genuinely excellent; professional, engaging, and very motivating. Unfortunately, the final interview with some of the managers was the complete opposite experience. As a graduate applicant and young student, I was asked questions that felt unnecessarily excessive and unrealistic for an entry-level role. More disappointing than the questions themselves was the tone and behaviour throughout the interview, which came across as condescending and intimidating rather than supportive or constructive. I am normally a very confident person, yet I left the interview genuinely questioning my abilities and even my career path. Thankfully, I have since accepted an offer from one of their competitors, where I was treated with respect and encouragement instead of being made to feel inadequate. A difficult interview is understandable, but there is a difference between challenging candidates and making them feel diminished.
