An interview I did with True app (owned by Hello Mobile according to TechCrunch) in mid 2019. A certain individual I will just name as Alex provided the most racist interview I've ever encountered in my entire life. Just to be clear this was a moderated phone interview as well, so there was another employee on the line. This was not a video call – just audio – but it does not excuse his behavior. At one point he interrupted me while I was speaking, to ask me "So are you from Singapore? I know a person from Singapore and you sound just like her". First of all, I don't know what that has anything to do with anything, second of all, racist and incredibly unprofessional (no I'm not from Singapore nor am I asian for that matter), third of all, the moderator didn't even say anything; he just let it happen, he didn't intervene, and pretended like nothing happened. The day after I had a phone call with another employee (whom I'll call Kori), and he decided that I hadn't won enough awards to qualify moving onto the next round. Seriously the level of arrogance and ego in Silicon Valley tech bro culture is insane. Obviously no one made an attempt to apologize after all of the interviews either.
