The assessment centre stage was awfully clunky - really unexpected for a company this size who has been running these for years. It was awkward. It had last minute changes which resulted in a barrage of emails which I supposed can't be helped. The entire time the HR staff acted as if technology is dark magic which for an engineering company I think puts a bit of a bad taste in one's mouth. They were all pleasant. Still, the day could have been much quicker- the numeracy and logic reasoning test did not have to occur during the assessment centre.
The longer it went on, the more I lost faith in the company. I didnt feel like I'm learning anything about IMI beyond the fact that I'd be working with submarines only - which itself was a surprise for me, as I know Critical Engineering spans many industries.
The best part of the interview was the case study experience in which you role play what your work could look like - that was also attended by a real engineer and it seemed like a glimmer of hope for getting to know the company better.
The most annoying part is that throughout we kept being asked to keep feedback in mind because it'll be asked later and it made it seem like a first attempt at running a grad scheme. It made me feel like a guinea pig even though I knew very well this is not their first time.
I ended up being rejected and instead of wrapping the subject up, now they want to give feedback by scheduling a call in 3 weeks time despite my reassurance that I'd be happy with the text paragraph. Overall it's been a very disappointing process that did not lead me to believe if have had a good career start with their graduate scheme which is great shame.
