The interview felt thoughtful and engaging. The founders took a real interest in my background and experience. They especially appreciated candidates who use AI in their design process, which made the conversation feel modern, relevant, and focused on innovation.

Interview
The interview process started out standard until devolving into an unstructured mess. Two of the three founders have little interest in the actual words you say and they will not remember them later. Everyone I interacted with was a workaholic with zero work-life balance, or interests outside of work. Highly stereotypical tech-bro startup.
First round was a typical first screening with one of the founders.
Second round was a technical discussion with a second founder, followed by a take-home technical assignment to build a secret sharing application.
Third round was reviewing the take-home and discussing plus a system design to model it out and add onto it.
Fourth round was a casual discussion with the third founder.
Fifth round was an in-person work day in their San Francisco office where you are given more requirements than what could possibly be done by anyone that respects their own time as a job seeker. Effectively, these tasks were the company looking for free or cheap labor.
These tasks included proposing *and* the expectation to develop on a total refactor of the audit log system. Another task was a bug fix on the frontend application, and the last task was to add an entire feature to their CLI tool. There is no set time, the code and setup is mostly undocumented, and you are expected to work well beyond a typical day, as my impression was that most people in this company work 12+ hour days.
