      Senior Technical Support Engineer Interview

      2 Jul 2015
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Informatica in Jun 2022

      Interview

1 x Call with an external recruiter to vet experience and skills 1 x Call with team lead to chat on these items + hypothetical questions Did not get the role but the next step would have been a technical interview which i'd imagine were a few scenario's for problem solving on the DB or Java side and a final round in panel format. Basically, the call with the team lead resulted in a 'no-offer' based on my previous experience that didn't include any on-premise or java based systems. Too much startup work. This all could have been avoided or discussed with the recruiter first in a proper screening call to save everyone's time. The recruiter also made the interview awkward by literally saying 'this is the most awkward interview I have ever had' due to the fact that they were trying to be candid about a match of my skills to the role, and also asking more questions then trying to fit me to potential role that was different; while a nice gesture, its not what I wanted so it could have been discussed offline. Overall it was an awkward and strange experience, and I doubt I would interview here again...

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Informatica (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2015

      Interview

The entire process was quick. I had an initial screening with Hiring Manager about my past experiences and some scenario-based questions. The following day he forwarded my profile to his team mates, where I had back-to-back three telephonic interviews with mostly scenario-based and some direct questions on Unix, SQL and DBs. After these interviews, I was called by the recruiter for onsite interviews where I had different levels of interviews with 6 to 7 people. The interviewers ranged from Senior Engineers, Team Leads to Managers. The entire team was very friendly, welcoming and took good care of me.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

All the questions were based on OS and Databases. The questions ranged from Unix shell scripting to SQL and other languages. Mostly various problematic scenarios were given and we should explain how to solve them. Also, write some scripts in order to get the statistics of the processes that are running for too long and how do you identify the problem and resolve it.
