My experience with this company’s interview process was deeply disappointing and unprofessional. I was invited to an on-site interview at the Milpitas office (without any prior phone screens or interviews). Initially, I was informed that the interview would involve a coding challenge. Despite multiple attempts to follow up for clarification, I received no response. On the morning of the interview, I was finally informed that it would be a design challenge instead. This last-minute change left little time to prepare and demonstrated a lack of respect for my time and efforts. The 3-hour design challenge required me to create high-fidelity prototypes for a user flow from scratch. This expectation felt unreasonable, especially without prior communication about what would be evaluated and given the time constraint of the session. During the session, the interviewer did not formally introduce themselves or the company, nor ask me to introduce myself, which made the experience feel impersonal and disorganized. I was told to find a seat anywhere in the office, and I worked alone for most of the session, receiving minimal interaction or guidance. At the end of the session, no one was readily available to review my work. After walking around the office for 10 minutes to find my interviewer, the feedback I received was rushed and focused solely on the final deliverables rather than my design process or reasoning. Afterward, I was asked to share my design files, which felt concerning given the lack of clarity on how they would be used. Overall, the experience reflected poorly on the company’s interview process, emphasizing deliverables over collaboration and showing signs of low UX maturity. While I understand the constraints startups face, this level of disorganization and disregard for candidates is inexcusable. Overall, this experience left me with a negative impression of their culture and priorities.
